The end of another season
Today marked the end of another rifle season. This season was relatively uneventful as I was sick for the first half of it, which just so happened to be the part of the season in which I normally spend the most time hunting. All the guys in my family normally camp at our lease the first weekend of every season, and I started getting sick the first night we were camped. I did see a lot of pictures of big bucks that were taken this season, but I did not hear of any does being killed at all. This is odd because does normally make up about half the number of deer killed. I guess from now on it will be duck hunting for me!

Limited movement
November 17 marked the first day of rifle season this year. I had a virus and missed the opening weekend and was unable to hunt, however I have been a few times since then with limited success. I have only seen one deer, a four point buck. This is odd because I normally see a large number of does while hunting but have not seen a single one this year! Hopefully this will change in the week to come!

Duck Hunting
Last weekend marked the opening weekend of duck season. I have not had the privilege of getting to go hunting just yet, but I have heard that the duck population seems to be quite strong, which is not the norm for this time of year! In years passed I have struggled at this time of year with a limited duck population, so this sounds promising! I cannot wait to get out with a group of the guys and sit around and talk while shooting the occasional duck!

Success (Finally!)
After many hours spent in the woods without seeing any deer, I finally saw a nice buck today! I had only been sitting for about 45 minutes when a buck walked toward me and presented me with a shot. Shooting him brought an end to my muzzleloading season for the year, so now it is time to start focusing on rifle season which, in the area I hunt, is two weeks long and steches from November 17 until December 1st. I will be allowed to shoot a buck and a doe. Also, this weekend marked the opening of duck season, so I will have updates on how the Southeastern Oklahoma duck population looks this year (that is a redneck topic, but I am who I am!)

Black Powder Hunting
As this weekend approaches, many hunters are ready for the start of a new season, black powder hunting. This primitive form of hunting only allows weapons that are loaded from the muzzle, without preloaded cartridges. The perks to hunting with a muzzle-loader are that the deer are not generally as spooked at this time of the year as they are later on during rifle season. All the men in my family get together and we go to a lease that we have for a weekend campout every year for the opening weekend of this season. We spend countless hours sitting around a fire recalling previous years hunts, previous kills, and the ones that got away! If you are unfortunate enough to miss a deer, the crew that is generally at these campouts will generally not let you forget about anytime soon! If you have never been hunting, I would encourage you to go at least once with someone that is somewhat passionate about it because there is more to it then shooting innocent deer like some might believe!

Hunting Oklahoma

Bow Hunting Southeastern Oklahoma
In recent years, Southeastern Oklahoma has seen an explosive interest in bow hunting. Ten years ago, hunting in Southeastern Oklahoma meant you had a rifle in your hand. Now, however, bow hunting has swept the region and small bow shops have sprung up all over providing the type of services that were once only available in large cities. This has drastically reduced the cost involved with bow hunting and has furthered many peoples interest in the sport!
